Pakistan’s education sector has faced unprecedented challenges due to the Pandemic. We, in our Summit ‘APOES’, held in May 2020, defined those challenges, the urgency to address them and what resources Pakistan has in hand to form the new educational landscape. Looking at the sheer extent of response and impeccable reach which defined the eagerness of our student and faculty body to progress in a thriving digital economy, we are now presenting APOES 2.0.

UNLEASH THE DJINI
Owing to the dynamic response and unprecedented success of APOES – Pakistan’s first and only digital summit held online from 16th-19th of May 2020, it was only natural that Hybrid Institute’s energetic team brainstorm ways to take a step further in creating a solution-based platform that will put theoretical suggestions from experts, panelists, educationists and guests into a practical framework. The need, the challenges, and the issues to ponder upon when it comes to Pakistan’s urgency in adapting an eLearning framework were thoroughly looked into at the event held in May. However now is the time to gather the various impetuses and move towards the realm of possibilities for a ‘quality’ EdTech system.
Whereas APOES aimed to provide useful and supportive networking and collaboration opportunities to key stakeholders, who have been struggling to embrace the exigencies of the COVID-ridden teaching-learning practices, APOES 2.0 is organized to unleash the digital Djini – a conscious correlated effort of the faculty to embrace digital literacy and create bridges of growth so as to allow the transition from just being consumers to contributors to take place effectively. Although, the emergency remote instructional delivery has furiously taken over the system, the unplanned and rapid move to online learning has resulted in many factors such as the scarcity of training, insufficient bandwidth, and lack of preparation to adapt the pandemic shift resulting in below par learner experience that is unconducive to sustained growth.

APOES 2.0 is programmed to combat these shortcomings in the most definite, accessible and proficient way. Experts in the field will lay the framework of how to adapt to actual practices, including conducting fast track EdTech sessions that will provide specialized solutions and possibilities in a qualitative educational ecosystem, emphasizing on domains: LMS, Digital Divide, Quality Assurance Frameworks, Proctoring Tools, Tutoring Systems, Assessment Solutions, and Content Providers.
Three major aspects that will be significantly covered while establishing a concrete plan of action are: 1) COLLABORATION ON TECHNOLOGiES, CONTENT AND EXPERTISE, 2) REALIZATION OF THE COMING OF ‘DIGITAL’ AGE, 3) EDTECH ENTREPRENEURSHIP WITH HUMANISTIC APPROACH
INTRODUCING APOES 2.0

The event will emphasize the need for a coordinated approach between governments, quality assurance agencies and higher education institutions addressing not only the available resources but also a broader vision of what ﬂexibility of learning can and must provide to counter the challenges faced by educators around the world.
Collaboration on Technologies, Content and Expertise (Rethinking evaluation and assessment in the digital era): One factor needs to be realized right now: you can’t assess a learner attuned to the traditional mechanism of education anymore. The key to quality assessment is informed by virtual parameters such as extracting knowledge of the learner with a faulty agenda, validity of the assessments and course remapping. Testing should be streamlined with measurable outcomes. Most importantly, assessments should be explicit and creative now – more than ever – as boredom affects the concept acquisition. This and more will be highlighted at the event, allowing expert opinions and action plans to be analyzed and presented.
Coming of ‘Digital’ Age (From consumers to contributors of knowledge): The event aims to bring forth a conscious effort to focus on the structure and ways to create an interactive interface through video capabilities, using a range of collaboration tools and engagement methods that will sync: inclusion, personalization and intelligence. It is time for the experts to present their capable guidance on how traditional academic skills and rote learning has to be revolutionized towards critical thinking to attain long term results and mold future contributors. Definite strategies will be laid to present how our digital education business needs to lay foundations into regional markets for the progressive infrastructure in the long-run.
EdTech Entrepreneurship (With the humanistic approach): One of the major aspects that need precise consideration and immense re-evaluation is the Instructor-student interaction in the digitized podium. Educationists continue to be the core foundation to a solid eLearning infrastructure. While there may be unlimited knowledge sources to access in a virtual setting, user-interface is critical for the enhancement of concepts acquired. It is important to foster student interest to engage with the contents of the course at hand. Instructors must aim to engage in an environment that adapts various learning strategies, and ensure qualitative skills in the long run. The need to adapt EdTech entrepreneurship within and outside of academia is to be encouraged with real-world examples to emphasize urgency.
According to Oscar Wilde, “People who count their chickens before they are hatched act very wisely because chickens run about so absurdly that it’s impossible to count them accurately.” COVID-19 has taught us exactly that – to accept the gravity of the situation and act timely. Held in May 2020, APOES determined the force of the immense wave of transformations brought about by the Pandemic and suggested possible measures to stand tall and resist its sweep. APOES 2.0 celebrates this resistance and is organized to prepare us with an armament that makes us strong enough to counter any unexpected onslaught likely to disrupt our academic and professional life. With this aim in mind, the Summit welcomes abstracts on the following topics related to educational innovations and technology-based learning.

GUIDELINES FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS
APOES 2.0 invites local and international researchers to submit abstracts of their papers by August 14th 2020 in the MS Word format, sent via the conference website. The abstract must clearly state the hypothesis and/or major objective(s) and the potential impact of the work. The work must be completely original and not previously published or presented.
The abstract must not exceed the maximum 300-word limit. The single paragraph abstract should be typeset in Times New Roman, 12 pt., regular, left-aligned (not justified) font with 1.5 line spacing. On top of the abstract paragraph, please write the topic statement. Below the topic statement, write the author(s) name(s), affiliation, contact number, and the correspondence email. Give up to six keywords at the end of the abstract. For referencing, authors are advised to follow APA style manual, 6th edition.
In the wake of a global pandemic, Pakistan has been put through some very unprecedented scenarios. Nationwide lockdowns of all private and government institutions, curfew like closures of public places and confinement of the public to their homes.
In these challenging times it is our education sector that has arguably suffered the most. From the lowest all the way to the highest tiers of education teachers, students and parents have found it difficult to adjust to the new regulations and forms of education put forth by the government.
Online education has proved itself by revolutionizing the way students learn throughout the world but online education in Pakistan has been slow to roll out. In a way these lockdowns have been a blessing in disguise as it fast-tracked the implementation of online education throughout the country.
The need for online education is a must for Pakistan to stay competitive in the world but the sudden transition from an analogue mode of education to a digital mode has given rise to many challenges for teachers, students and parents alike.
To address these challenges, Hybrid Institute of Contemporary Studies is proudly hosting The Second All Pakistan Online Education Summit (APOES) on the 16th, 17th and 18th of September 2020.
The conference target audience is diverse and includes those working in the higher education, vocational education, K-12, corporate, government, military and regulatory bodies.
